Boogie Woogie has no auditions going on at the moment. When they decide to have auditions, they will be telecasting on the TV Screen for your convenience. Some came home really happy and some came sad. Sometimes things happen and sometimes we expect one thing and it turns out to be something else. Its life, it happens, do not worry - its time to move on to plan B. I keep repeating one story time and again and that should inspire you too. It is my favorite story. Thomas Alva Edison who failed to make bulb 100 times and succeeded afterwards was asked how does it feel to fail a hundred times. To this he answered, "why do you look at it that way? I now know a hundred ways of how NOT to make a bulb." So friends the glass is never half empty, look at it as half full. What happened has happened, we cannot do anything about it but one thing is there and that is very much in our hands and that is to plan better for next time. Plus experiences teach us better then just any theory. And tell me one good reason to get upset and why? It is Boogie Woogie!! With Boogie Woogie, doors are never closed. We keep hearing so many participants the number of times they have been appearing or the number of times they tried before they got a chance so stay positive. If today is not your day then tomorrow it surely will be! Doors for Boogie Woogie will never close on you - at least me being a die hard fan, that is my confidence on them!

So let us see what we can do for next time.

First and foremost - take some time out and put your best effort in preparing your best package.

Watch boogie woogie and observe what they are saying. A lot of times judges, they give out clues on what they look out in a participant. Make notes while watching the show. A well prepared dancer is anytime better then the one that goes to participate with just assumptions.

You need to keep the key points on mind and groom yourself exactly the way they want to see you. You need to adopt their requirement and let it grasp in all of you. A lot of times, things are not said clearly for whatever reasons so you need to read in between lines. Try visiting web sites and get tips that can help you perform better. Think about the past winners and the comments that judges gave them and what impressed them and based on those points, prepare a different number, just don’t copy that but prepare something different that hasn’t been shown before. Do not choose the same number that has been performed like a hundred times on the show but if you like to dance on the same number then do something entirely different with it. Make sure your output turns out to be different and look original and for this it doesn’t matter if you are going to copy and paste the steps from 10 different shows but mixing of your steps and the final output results should be applaudable. Use your creativity to the maximum after all participating in Boogie Woogie is not a joke. They always bring out the best of best performers and you need to fit in that best of best lot so think on those terms but don’t stress yourself out. There is plenty of help available everywhere free of cost plus we are right here for you. We can always guide you, give you tips and help you prepare better. We are Boogie Woogie Die Hard Fans and this is least we can do for other fans.

Anyway, lets look at the best practices for auditions. Often dancers are turned down not because they are bad performers but because they failed to supply a package that is not appealing enough. Remember it is all a competitive world. The one that comes with something different and does that different stuff flawlessly and in a appealing format always has a chance. A package needs to be such that can be viewed quickly and that presents exactly what was asked for in the beginning.

Honestly, we have been very fortunate that Firdaus visited us and also told us what are their expectations and how much time they take in scanning a talent. Friends, the time that all you have to impress them is the first 45 seconds. 45 seconds should be your golden rule. Whatever are your best moves, steps you need to portray, put it in the first 45 seconds but also make sure the remaining 1 minute and 15 seconds is not boring as well as she said if they like what they see then the remainder of the video is watched. Anytime Firdaus visits this blog and leaves us a message, I want all the dance aspirants to put their entire energies on her message and stare at her words till her each and every word is byhearted and absorbed in their performance! Please pay attention friends, good advice comes in only once in a while! Prepare Better!!

Anyway I don’t think any rejection should discourage you, it should as a matter of fact, make you much more stronger and prepare you with better enthusiasm. Just be positive and prepare harder - don’t give up till you get the results that make you happy! I am confident that you will make it one day, do you have confidence on my confidence?? Smile - be Happy - You did a great JOB!! And I am very proud of you!

Usha brought a very good point regarding Music Companies and Copyrighted material. Thank You Usha! And so we will try to cover these two topics and will also try to find the music companies and labels that you may be able to use for your auditions.

First let us understand what copyright is: A Copyright is a law that protects the works of authors, artists, composers, companies and others from using their work without their permission. It gets them exclusive rights in relation to their work. Copyright has been internationally standardized lasting between fifty to a hundred years from the author’s death or a shorter period for anonymous or corporate authorship. A copyright is necessary as it allows them to have complete control of their product and when it is being used without permission then it grants them an ability to sue or for statutory damages.

Although copyright attaches upon fixation, one cannot sue someone unless they are registered with the copyright office. The registration needs to be in effect within 3 months from the date of the first publication or at least prior to the date of infringement. Plagiarism is pretty easy in present Internet world and so if a company is registered and holds the copyright, then it protects them in the court of law but then it is not that easy. Companies normally loose their battle if the plagiarism website is not operated for profit or if the material is sitting on third party hosts. The consequence would be that the copyright company while trying to protect its rights only ends up paying attorney fees for nothing. But either way, a copyright material must be respected. And so companies normally avoid using such material especially when plenty to zillion other better products are sitting in the market. If you ask me my opinion, any copyright material is not even worth the trouble. It doesn’t do any good except to the ego of the owner. It only bites dusts where as the others that are available in the market become lot more popular and enjoy all the limelight. But should it be respected and leave alone? Yes it should be!

But when it comes to performing on a stage, it is completely another thing as it is not a website but a TV show. When a music is being played on a show, it becomes the shows responsibility to check the copyrighted material. And so Sony/ Boogie Woogie does not allow you to play any tracks that are produced by few companies due to their copyright laws.

Coming to Yash Raj, Big Music, T- Series and any international labels, you CANNOT use their music because they are copyrighted and if used by a participant then it gives the above companies a right to sue Sony and that is why they do not want any of their participants to use music that is produced by the above companies.

This brings us to the next question, if these companies are not allowed then what other companies are left that we are allowed to use? Friends, the above companies don’t even contribute 10 percent on the whole of what India outputs music. There are far more better companies and in many in number that you can use. You will also find many attractive tracks that you can dance on. Some of the companies for example are:

1. Saregama India Ltd: Saregama India Ltd is India’s largest music recording company. It was formerly known as the Gramophone Company of India. It is registered in Kolkata, India and is also part of RPG Group. Saregama India Ltd produces almost more then 50% of all the music ever recorded in India. This is one huge company and you should be able to pick many of your favorite songs.

Okay since the auditions are around the corner and many mummy’s have many questions so I thought its better to read the entire rules and regulations and note down some of the finer points. Hoping to clear all your doubts and help you prepare your audition better.

We will try to cover all major points but if this article gets too long then don’t blame me but blame MSM for lengthy rules I would love that!!

Okay jokes apart let’s get to business and dissect their rules and regulations so that we can understand it better!

• A very important point – rules says: “ENTRY TO AUDITIONS IS ON FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS.” So that means you have to make sure you reach the venue of auditions ON TIME!! Time is an important factor friends, so make sure you utilize it to the best. Definition of First Come First Served is "a policy whereby the requests of mummy’s for auditions are attended to in the order they arrive without other biases or preferences." If you reached the venue at 9 am, you will be called in at that hour if they do not have others lined up, they will not call the person who arrives at 9:30 for audition simply because you arrived there first. Hope it’s clear.
• Boogie Woogie, MSM, R&N Productions will not bear your travel costs or other costs that you incur in reaching the audition venues. You have to bear your own costs like travel fare inclusive of bus fares, petrol costs, auto, train or any other charges or surcharges. You will also bear your own costs for example if you are hungry or thirsty; you will buy your own food or drinks.
• If you see anyone charging you fees or any money, you must report to Sony and the address is on Contact Show page above.
• Participants who are not Indian citizens are eligible to participate in auditions provided you hold a valid Indian Visa, passport and other documentation.
• You will not be provided with any additional space like dressing room or make up room for change of costumes or for make up so please omit taking your costumes with you. If you feel your costume will add strength to your performance, then wear it from home. But remember, costumes and make up is not required for auditions.
• MSM has listed a SMS number 52525 to text them for more information – If I were you, I will just omit that. Last year many people text but nobody got replied back so please SAVE your money - don’t put it on MSM’s pocket!
• Another point you need to remember is that by appearing for audition, you are completely giving your rights to MSM. They will use your audition video, photograph or information to portray you as a participant or even exhibit in media without any compensation to you or without your consent. Once you audition, your audition tape or information will be theirs and can be used for their business purpose. If your appearance damages your reputation tomorrow, (God forbid) then you will not hold MSM responsible and waive your rights from any claims. Your application and audition serves as your acceptance to the terms to their policy and the rules and regulations they have set so no disputes will be entertained afterwards.
• If you are selected for the next stage, you HAVE TO make yourself available for the shoot or next round. If you do not show up, you may be disqualified. So make sure you are available and will not have ANY EXUSES later. Make sure to take your family consent and talk to your kids and make them realize that you may have to be away from them for couple of months if you are selected.
• No one will disobey or make a scene at the time of auditions or if selected then during the shoot. No misbehavior or creating unrest scene is allowed. Any disturbance may lead to legal action. Please deal with situations with patience at all time and avoid unnecessary arguments.

Now let us look at what you need to carry along for your auditions: PLEASE PAY ATTENTION HERE

• Application form must be duly filled in. Make sure to fill all columns and rows applicable.
• You need to attach a passport size photograph on the form
• You need to carry your identity card with you. This can be in form of State ID card, Birth certificate, Ration card, Passport, Voter’s ID, Pan card. It will serve as a proof to identify you. This will also serve as your proof of age.
• You need to carry your audio CD. NO MP3’S ALLOWED! It should be in good working condition. Make sure to test it a number of times before you go. You need to carry more then one CD of the same song/songs with you so that in case one doesn’t work, you have a backup and also if your CD is taken along with your dance audition then you do have a copy to know what CD you handed over to them. You need to hand over your CD to R & N Production team member when you reach the audition venue along with your application form.
• The length of the song must not exceed 2 minutes. Please crop, cut your song to its best part. Remember what Firdaus said earlier - they normally make a decision within 45 seconds of the performance so don’t start too slow and take time there, your best steps or moves might just be lost. Make sure to have your best steps in the first 45 seconds so that your first impression can be your best impression. They have written clearly that any un-edited or badly edited songs shall be disqualified. So please be careful with your audio. If you need any help in cropping or burning a CD, do email us and we can help you out but do not take any chances.
• Your CD must be labeled neatly with your name, song name, movie name, music company name.
• All auditions will be video taped for judges to preview at later stage. NO RESULTS ARE GIVEN ON THE SPOT! You only need to perform and come back. When your audition is viewed later and if it matches their requirement, R & N Production team will contact you with either phone, email, fax or whatever your preferred contact is. They only intend to inform those who are selected. But this should not discourage you from appearing for auditions. Your duty is to try and leave the rest to God so please prepare well.
• Make sure the songs you select DOES NOT belong to T Series, Yash Raj banner, Big Music or any International labels.

Last before week on Boogie Woogie, Ravi pointed out a very valuable tip that should be saved and sealed for all audition aspirants.

One group in Himmat ki Kheemat had sent in their VCD and were selected based on that audition video but it seemed that they changed their dancers and song when they came in to perform on the Boogie Woogie stage. That backfired on the group and maybe it resulted in fetching the group with negative points. Why? Please read below.

Ravi Behl talked about how Boogie Woogie selects their candidates for the show. He said; when they view the VCD and like a particular performance, they send out the invite. They then expect the participant or group of participants to perform on the same song that got them selected. Any change in song or dancers may result in disqualification or getting them negative points.

In simple words, when you send out your VCD to Boogie Woogie, note down your song selection because that is the same song you will need to perform if you are invited for the show. And in case it’s a group performance then make sure not to change or replace any dancers from your group. Once the VCD goes in, you selection of song and dancers stays sealed.

With so many millions of dancers wanting to perform on Boogie Woogie show, if you get a call from them, please be careful and not do any mistake that will ruin the chances of performing on the prestigious stage. If there is really a genuine and huge problem, do discuss with them with enough time on hand. I am sure they will be willing to hear you out and cooperate but it’s always better to be safe then sorry friends. So please avoid any last minute changes.

Include a cover letter mentioning your interest in Boogie Woogie in Mummy’s championships. Prepare yourself a good introduction – think of how you would introduce yourself best at least amount of time. Maybe it is a good idea to mention few lines about your family and your flexibility. Don’t write a story. Be specific but be clear in the message your want to send across. (VERY IMPORTANT - Get your family consent so that there are no problems in future.)

Fill in your application form and make a copy of it for your records. Your application acts like your resume. Prepare yourself well according to your application and be ready to answer if you are asked anything from it.

Make a clear Video CD, label it with your name, the song that you are dancing on, film name, and music company name. Make sure you don’t select any song from the company’s that are not allowed. Boogie Woogie has listed few companies that you CANNOT play their music. T-Series, Yash Raj, Big Music and any international music labels are the ones that you cannot use.

Choose your best song for the audition video CD. Get a second and third opinion from others before making it. Be fluent and flawless in your performance.

Make sure none of the songs that you dance have vulgar meaning or feel to it.
Your audition needs to be no more then 2 minutes so trim your song well to its best part and prepare well.

I dont think costume is needed for your audition CD but if you think it might add to its strength then go for it.

Please make your video in sufficient light so that your dance and expressions are clearly seen.

Have a good quality for your audio song that you will be dancing on. It should be heard clearly in your video CD.

Make sure there are no background noises or disturbances

If possible, show your dance prior to the person who is recording so that he or she gets a feel of how to focus their camera while you are dancing.

Request your camera person to take a clear video especially when you give out your expressions and your best movements.

Prepare your song by understanding the meaning of all words well.

Last but not least - Have PATIENCE and wait to hear from Firdaus - continue to practice and pray - Keep yourself always on positive note.

After super duper hit of Mummy’s Championship last year, Boogie Woogie is coming back with 2009 Championship for mothers. Mummy’s - it is time now that you come out from your happy little nest to show your talent.
