Boogie Woogie’s Grand Finale was really grand and in two words it is MUST WATCH! If you are a Boogie Woogie fan, then you are used to high standard. Watching many other dancing reality shows, it use to instantly make the difference of quality between Boogie Woogie and the other shows but then soon enough the other shows learnt the trick to be successful and the secret was to get the ex Boogie Woogiens as participants in their shows so that way the show is automatically guaranteed a success. For example, take ex Boogie Woogie dancers and apply a good marketing strategy, success is for sure. People will circulate the videos all over the world talking about their high standard talented contestants like it is happening right now. Anyway, we will talk about that in another article but let’s get back to Mummy’s Championships.
Boogie Woogie puts hard enough work in searching for the right candidates and the performances talk it all. Going back in time when the auditions were going on for Mummy’s, many mothers felt they dance better then the selected candidates but then as the weeks passed on, the same mothers showed magic – a magic that only professionals were capable of. So was that the talent that the mummy’s came with to Boogie Woogie or is it the prestigious platform that transformed the mothers into professionals? Well we all know the answer don’t we? Yes only Boogie Woogie just like a jeweler, can recognize a diamond and polishes it for perfection!
The grand finale started with all mothers dancing on “Welcome” song and it was pleasant surprise to see all mothers that were there from week one. The next big surprise was that the finalists five mummy’s were choreographed by none other then the Jhalak choreographers and that hyped more excitement (not that our Sumit and Vinod is any less then them – they are Boo’s awesomest of the awesome!) The judges did inform before hand that one mother will get eliminated on Friday night and the cream of the cream – the mighty four will compete on Saturday night for the ultimate crown.
The first mother to start the Grand Finale was Chupi Rustum Saili Desai who was choreographed by Deepak Singh. He choose song “Tinka tinka” – a soft sensuous number for Saili and she gave the performance a good romantic start sitting on a half moon. Saili wore a red color outfit and her performance looked like a perfect fairytale. Saili has shown tremendous growth especially her talent just before the quarter finals stood out the best. It looked like she was saving her best for the last. Smart mother! Coming back to her performance, her expressions were fantastic. The Boo dancers in the background added lot of charm to the performance as well. Saili’s performance was one beautiful peace. The after performance talk got great compliments from the judges. Naved’s words were - “kamaal ka kiya”, Jaaved’s words were “rhythm from point A to point B – smoothness was missing at places but it was a good attempt.
The second mother to perform was Neelu Rai who was choreographed by Savio Barnes. Neelu danced on song “huyi mein mast”. The lighting on the stage was superb and so was Neelu’s outfit which was in black and silver color. Some of the highlights of Neelu’s dance were: when she danced in front of mirrors, that was good. The way she rotated the mirrors and her closure was very well done. Her beauty - she looked like a million bucks! The after performance remark by Jaaved was that she attempted a new genre for the first time. There were 2 to 3 awkward movements but it was well attempted. Neelu’s husband and Savio were both happy with Neelu’s performance. Neelu and her husband had also brought many gifts for the judges that were on behalf of couple of schools from Kalimpong. They had sent a bunch of scarfs and other goodies and in return the judges thanked all of the school committees for their gestures. Clippings were also shown from Kalimpong that spoke in favor of Neelu and how they want her to win the Boogie Woogie Championships.
The third mother to perform was Ritu Gupta who got Tina as her Choreographer. Ritu’s beautiful performance started with a person on Harmonium and Ritu wearing a pink color lehanga making an entry on a chatayi. She came up with an item number dancing on song “dil waalo ke dil ka kharaar lutne”. Ritu’s performance had all the ingredients that a item number is suppose to have plus it was pretty spicy to give all the required oomph to her performance. Her thoomkas, jhatkas and all of her expressions were fabulous. It was one fast and entertaining performance which can be called a total paisa wasool. Ritu got great compliments from the judges especially from Jaaved. His words were “superb”. He then congratulated Tina for her choreography. Jaaved also said the confidence level in Ritu’s performance was full and her mood was fantastic. Ritu’s husband was extremely happy with her performance. Ritu also thanked Boogie Woogie for all that she achieved from the prestigious show.
The fourth finalist mother was Saba Bari who was choreographed by my favorite Jhalak choreographer Javed Sanadi. Saba wore an anarkali costume in green and red color and made an grand entry to perform Kathak. She danced on medley and gave a superb performance. Saba’s performance was graceful, sensual and mesmerizing. Her Kathak steps were perfect and with her performance, Saba proved that where all the dancers go for western and other form of Bollywood style of dances, she can prove to be a tough contender by choosing the Indian classical dance - Kathak. Saba’s medley consisted of songs right from “inhi logo ne” from movie Pakeeza to Umrao Jaan’s dil chees kya hai to “Maar dala”. She got the best compliments from the judges and some of the remarks that they came up were: Ravi - “base bhaari tha”, Jaaved’s words were: “you should have maintained your feet closer to each other but on the whole your performance was the best of the evening”. He requested Javed Sanadi to dance few steps of Kathak on the stage and what Javed and Saba did together is another that shouldn’t be missed at any cost. It was simply mind blowing. Jaaved Jaaffery couldn’t help but walk up to the stage and congratulate Javed Sanadi and complimented him. A must watch performance indeed!
The last mummy to perform on Friday nights grand finale was the hip hop queen Sonia Dias. I remember the talks from prior championships when the judges asked the kids to remain to their forte and not attend something new especially when they are close enough to the finals, this time around we saw mummy’s trying new almost every week. In one way it was great to see their adaptability to learn and
perform newer type of dances but then when the dancers are like Sonia who gets to be one of your favorite contestant then you slightly get a little nervous thinking why she is trying out a newer dance. But when Sonia walked on the stage with stage beautifully lit in red color and Sonia in red and black costume, you only end up feeling proud of this perfect mother who amazes you with awesome belly dance. Sonia performed belly dance on song “ankhiya milake” with a good part of Arabian music remixed in it. I personally had an opportunity of seeing professional belly dancing and Sonia’s performance was no less then the ones that I applauded for as the best. Sonia from no angle looked like an hip hop dancer as she shaked her belly and waist fantastically awesome. Her dance was graceful and yes “sensuous”. She also performed a flip which came out pretty neat. She totally surprises you and leaves you all awe in praise. In my books she definitely reserves her place in top two mummy’s of 2009! Sonia Dias was choreographed by Rosita. After performance got both Sonia and Rosita perform belly dance on Boogie Woogie stage and it was fantastic! Jaaved came with good comments for Sonia and said “it was good attempt and she took his advice seriously. He also talked about the rhythm and beats. Ravi advised Sonia to keep smiling and that adds weight to her performance. There were couple of PJ’s between Naved and Sonia and for sure were funny
After a flashback, the results were announced and the one unfortunate mummy to get eliminated was pretty Neelu Rai. Judges spoke very well about Neelu and Neelu showed her gratitude towards the show and the judges and said she did not expect to reach the finals and is extremely happy with her entire experience with Boogie Woogie. It was also Neelu’s birthday on this unfortunate elimination day but the good part was that the judges and the mummy’s sang a “Happy Birthday” song for Neelu. Neelu bid goodbye with a big smile on her face. We wish Neelu very best of best in all her future endeavors and do hope to see her back on Boogie Woogie stage to spread the good name of hers and also of Kalimpong. All the very best Neelu!!
With the above elimination, Boogie Woogie selected the cream of the cream, the final four finalists mummy’s to compete on Saturday’s Grand Finale. Saili, Ritu, Saba and Sonia were the much deserving final four top mothers who emerged with their sheer talent and determination.
See you tomorrow folks ![]()
