Sometimes I go off topic and talk about something else and today I am in a similar mood. I know with auditions right around the corner and its weekend already – half of the world has already watched Boogie Woogie and the other half of the world is waiting to watch in few hours and here I am trying to talk about something else. So OFF I am! But you know what? A lesson was learnt today and I thought I must share it with you.
Today while I was driving to the bus terminal I got into an accident. Actually at a junction there were few cars ahead of me and they were too slow or scared to pull on the road and I was getting late as usual but waiting for them to move so I can move too. As they started to move, I saw the road was clear and I thought the vehicle ahead of me is going to move. He started to move but for some reason stopped. When he moved, I moved thinking he is driving and ended up hitting his car from behind.
Damn!! I thought! I had only 10 minutes to reach the bus terminal so that I can catch the bus to New York and if I miss that bus, the next bus would be only after half hour which will be too late to reach work. As I heard the thud, I thought, here goes everything in drain, now the cops will have to come and by the time they make the report, I am going to be so very late. Anyway, I knew it was my fault and I had to face the consequences. I walked out of my car and the first thing I told the guy was sorry. As soon as he heard me say sorry, he got mad at me saying what I was thinking. He started to inspect his vehicle and there were pretty bad scratches on his rear bumper. It looked like a newer vehicle and I really felt bad to see a big ugly patch on his bumper. Then I started apologizing to him saying “I am stupid I am sorry I didn’t mean to hit your car” and joined him in inspecting his vehicle. Told him his bumper looks bad. And then he said “Wait a minute”. Then he opened his trunk to see if it works, opened his rear door to see if that was functional, then came back to his bumper and looked again. It had popped out from its clipping, he pushed it inside and it went right in. Then he looked at me and said, “Its okay, not a big deal – lets finish it off here”. And I am zapped looking at him and trying to understand what he just said. He repeated – its okay just be careful while driving next time, the “bumper” is not a big deal, lets forget”. And then I felt even more bad but apologized again and thanked him. Returned to my car and started driving. He too left.
At this point I did thank God and then as soon as I was driving, the first thing that came to my mind was “why didn’t he call cops and report the accident? Maybe he doesn’t have a valid driving license or maybe his license must have been suspended after a DUI”
You must be thinking what a jerk I am right? Yes I too felt right after about 5 minutes. I thought what the heck is wrong with me. Here first of all I hit the man’s car and then he turns out to be a gentleman and forgets all about it and still I doubt his niceness?? Something is surely wrong with me. I need to go to hell. But then I felt really guilty and couldn’t meet my own eye for my behavior. I was so ashamed of myself! Soon after the guilt, I started praying for all the good things for the man. Really - May God bless him!!
But you know what this is how most of the human mind works. We live in so much pollution that when we come across some niceness, we refuse to believe in them. We instantly doubt them without even thinking twice. We think nobody would be nice in this world if there isn’t something behind. We feel he or she is being nice only because there is some other motive. We refuse to believe that they are really nice and genuine people unless we know them well enough. We can’t help it, our mind is set in that fashion that we just don’t believe in others.
The truth is - there is niceness in this world. There are lots of gentlemen, ladies, angels in form of humans and also simple people for whom materialistic things don’t matter. They believe in peace and harmony. They believe in being human and in forgiveness. These are the people who keep this world rejuvenated with love. God bless them and God bless the guy whom I hit this morning! Amen!
Oh by the way, I was able to make to the terminal on time and was in office early. But some guys are such bad drivers!!
