Boogie Woogie India Wishes All Its Members Happy Thanksgiving!

HappyThanks As many in western part of the world celebrated Thanksgiving Day on November 27th, it was a day to thank and also to perform grace and prayers.

For all those who do not know what thanksgiving is, let me tell you little about it.

Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in Northern America as a harvest festival. It is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. Most people celebrate by gathering at home with family or friends for a holiday feast. The main dish for this holiday that is cooked is “Turkey”.

Thanksgiving is celebrated on every fourth turkeyThursday of November during autumn season and once after crops are gathered. When the first European settlers in America gathered their crops, they celebrated. They thanked God for the success of the harvest. Tradition says the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 by Pilgrim settlers from England. The pilgrims were religious dissidents who fled oppression in England. When they landed in 1620, their voyage across the Altantic Ocean was difficult. Their first months in America were difficult. About 100 pilgrims landed just as autumn was turning into winter and due to severe winter, half of them died. When spring came, the Pilgrims began to plant crops. Native Americans had helped them in planting. At end of summer, the Pilgrims had a good harvest of corn and barley. They also grew some vegetables and thus they had enough food to last through the winter. The Pilgrims decided to hold celebration to give thanks for their good harvest and from that day onwards, Thanksgiving day became a holiday that is celebrated over three days. As I said earlier, Turkey is the main dish that is cooked on this holiday. If you are wondering why Turkey? There is a story to it. One story tells of how Queen Elizabeth of 16th century England was chowing down on roast goose during a harvest festival. When news was delivered to her that the Spanish Armada had sunk on it way to attack her beloved England, the queen was so pleased that she order a second goose to celebrate the great news. Thus, the goose became the favorite bird at harvest time in England. When the Pilgrims arrived in America from England, roasted turkey replaced roasted goose as the main cuisine because wild turkeys were more abundant and easier to find than geese.

Okay now that we talked about the holiday, lets come out from the serious business and lighten up the atmosphere.. here is a joke for you to enjoy and bring a smile to your Sunday!

“A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The paHappy_Thanksgivingrrot had a bad attitude & an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird’s mouth was rude, obnoxious & laced w/profanity.
John tried & tried to change the bird’s attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music & anything else he could think of to “clean up” the bird’s vocabulary.
Finally, John was fed up & he yelled @the parrot.. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot & the parrot got angrier & even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird & put him in the freezer.
For a few minutes the parrot squawked & kicked & screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a min.
Fearing that he’d hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John’s outstretched arms & said, “I believe I may have offended U w/my rude language & actions. I’m sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions & I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude & unforgivable behavior.”
John was stunned at the change in the bird’s attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, “May I ask what the turkey did?”
