BoogieWoogieIndia.Com Tips on Fashion Wear for Hip Hop Dancing

Last week we discussed about Hip Hop dancing skills and talked little about the basic concepts. This week let’s talk about the fashion that goes with it.

Whether you are a hip hop dancer going to perform in a audition or at Boogie Woogie or even in your local school or community, if your dancing style is hip hop then you must keep the fashion that goes in it in mind. If you are someone who is just watching others perform, then in that case this is what you can expect the dancers of hip hop style to be wearing.

Hip hop dance would really look weird if it had to be done in a 2 to 3 piece suit or some other formals. It just wouldn’t be right. As hip hop dance is a street dance and so the apparel has to match the style.

For male hip hop dancers, they should wear baggy pants, polo shirts and gold/ platinum chains around their neck. The feet should be clad in huge boots and sneakers and caps should be worn to complete the look.

Hip_Hop_Dancer For female hip hop dancers on the other hand will carry the base as the same with pants as slimmer, the skirts-shorter and are often combined with leggings and boots. The glam look can never be complete without some loud make up, a touch of lip-gloss and women oozing sensuality instead of the tomboy style of dressing. Cornrows with colorful beads, chunky, beaded jewelry and tying a bandanna around one’s thigh also remains to be a part of hip hop clothing gear.

You will find many brands that cater to the growing market for hip hop clothing gear. Whether one wears a branded jacket with a non-branded baggy pant, the entire look can never be complete unless you manage to season it with oodles of attitude combined with some snazzy head spins on the floor. This is definitely the true flavor of hip hop.

It’s not a great idea to wear any loose neck jewelery as it’ll get caught and could be dangerous. Your footwear should fit and be comfortable - not huge. Tees and polo’s are good but less on the accessories as they will hinder your performance and get in the way. If your moves are dynamic i.e B-boy you’ll regret the loose fitting cap, sneakers and jewelery. Keep it cool looking, comfortable, fun and dynamic.
